For over 20 years, Ed Polgardy has been an Emmy-award-winning television producer-director, a successful feature film writer-producer-director, and an acclaimed comic book creator-writer-editor during a varied and accomplished career.
Publishing Polgardy co-created and wrote the internationally acclaimed hit comic book series FROM THE DARKNESS and FROM THE DARKNESS: BLOOD VOWS, as well as the graphic novel adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN. He was Senior Editor at Jim Shooter's Defiant Comics, where he wrote and edited several hit titles, including THE GOOD GUYS and DARK DOMINION (penciled by SPIDER-MAN co-creator Steve Ditko). Polgardy also worked at BIG Entertainment where he held the Editor-in-Chief position and developed a wide variety of projects with celebrity concept creators, including John Jakes, Mickey Spillaine, Tom Clancy, and Neil Gaiman. The resulting intellectual properties were licensed to Miramax, Alliance Entertainment, and ABC TV.
Television Polgardy’s television work includes producing and directing TODAY’S ENVIRONMENT, starring Ed Begley, Jr., MILLENNIUM, hosted by Peter Weller, and THE BEST OF WINE AND FOOD, featuring George Hamilton. He also produced and directed .COM and .COM KIDS, staring Mark Hamill, ELEGANCE WITH IVANA, featuring Ivana Trump, WOMEN IN CHARGE, with Nancy Glass, FIRST PRIORITY, hosted by Hunter Tylo, HEALTHY SOLUTIONS, staring Mariette Hartley, and MONSTERAMA, featuring Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson. In 2002, Polgardy co-founded the television production company Price/Parker, where he developed, produced, and directed IDENTITY, a female-empowerment show that aired on The Learning Channel.
Television Awards Polgardy’s TV work has garnered him numerous accolades, including multiple gold and platinum Telly and Aurora awards, but he is most proud of the Emmy he won for producing and directing a half-hour television special for the IRS in 2001.
Feature Films As a screenwriter, Polgardy has had a number of his feature-film scripts optioned for production, including SKINS at Smart Egg Pictures, HAMMERLOCK at Films Around The World, and SENIORS at CRC Entertainment. Polgardy produced the motion pictures THE HALFWAY HOUSE (starring Mary Woronov) and DARK DREAMS (featuring Brick Bronsky). He line produced BOILER MAKER (starring John Savage and Jack McGee)...
...and co-produced LAID TO REST (featuring Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker), which is scheduled for release in April, 2009, through Starz / Anchor Bay Entertainment.
As a second unit director, Polgardy worked on DEATH’S DOOR, LAID TO REST, and DARK HOUSE, and he is currently preparing a horror/fantasy film called THE CRAVING, which he wrote and is scheduled to direct.
At Present Polgardy spends a lot of his time creating and developing intellectual properties for film and TV at CinemaGraphix Entertainment, a development, production, and licensing company that he co-founded in 2004, which launches its movie and television projects as comic-book series, graphic novels, and motion comics. The first CinemaGraphix release, THE NIGHT DRIVER, received rave reviews and is currently being made into an animated movie, for European television, that features the vocal talents of Jeffrey Combs and Daniel Roebuck. |
